Administrative Division
The Administrative Division oversees the general day-to-day operations of the department while managing the budget and fiscal operations. The division is commanded by a Major who reports to the Deputy Chief of Police. In addition, it manages the following units:

Uniform Division
The Uniform Division is responsible for providing direction to officers and staff, overseeing daily operations, and ensuring compliance with departmental policies and procedures. They allocate personnel and resources effectively, coordinate patrol schedules and deployment strategies, and oversee training and specialized units such as the Mounted Command and Motorcycle Units. Additionally, they engage with the community, collaborate with other law enforcement agencies, and develop crime prevention and enforcement strategies. The commanding officer works closely with department leadership to achieve organizational goals and objectives, and manages the following units:

Investigative Division
The Investigative Division is responsible for the major non-patrol related investigations and police work not covered by the Uniform Division and is also commanded by a Major in the department. The Investigative Division is made up of four major bureaus and several smaller units that target specific issues within the City. Office of Professional Responsibility
The Office of Professional Responsibility (Internal Affairs) is commanded by a Major in the department. Internal Affairs is responsible for overseeing administrative investigations within the department and investigating civilian complaints against the department and its officers. On occasion, major investigations within the department may be outsourced to the Rhode Island State Police or other outside agencies.
