Police Explorer Program

The Providence Police Explorers Program introduces young men and women interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement or other areas of the criminal justice field. The program provides career orientation experiences, leadership opportunities, and community service activities.

The primary goals of the program are to help young adults choose a career path within law enforcement and to challenge them to become responsible citizens of their communities.

The Providence Police Explorers Unit educates young adults on the purpose, mission, and objectives of law enforcement agencies. Police Explorers have the opportunity to gain practical, hands-on experiences while also serving the community.

The Explorers program teaches young adults the values and skills needed to succeed in a law enforcement career and in life including:

  • Self-Discipline
  • Self-Confidence
  • Self-Respect
  • Teamwork and the desire to help others

Participants in the program will learn about First aid and CPR, traffic control, radio procedures, self-defense, fingerprinting, and conflict resolution and crime scene analysis. Explorers also have the opportunity to learn more about the justice system, local laws, department procedures, and participate in police ride-along.

In addition to weekly meetings, participants have the opportunity to attend both local and national conferences, seminars and academies. These events offer Explorers to learn more about themselves through challenging team building activities and learn more about local and national law enforcement practices. Providence Police Police Explorers also serve the community when needed.
