Oscar Perez

Colonel Oscar L. Perez, Jr.

Chief of Police

Chief Oscar Perez, hailing from Medellin, Colombia, migrated to the United States at thirteen. With a career spanning 29 years in the Providence Police Department, Perez has held diverse roles including Patrol Officer, Youth Service Detective, and leadership positions within various divisions. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Administration of Justice from Roger Williams University and a Master’s in Criminal Justice from Boston University. Perez’s accolades include commendations for aiding FBI narcotics operations and assisting in apprehending individuals involved in violent crimes. He is a distinguished graduate of leadership programs such as Leadership Rhode Island, the Harvard Kennedy School Program, and the FBI National Academy.

Timothy O'Hara

Commander Timothy O’Hara

Deputy Chief of Police

Timothy O’Hara has served the Providence Police Department for 28 years, most recently serving as Major and overseeing the Administration Division. Commander O’Hara has had several supervisory roles throughout his career including Commanding Officer of the Mounted Command, Commanding Office of the Violent Crime Task Force and Commanding Officer of District 1, overseeing the Downtown area. This variety of experience has provided O’Hara with an in-depth understanding of the many roles and priorities within the Providence Police Department.
